Devkyara Trek – Trek of the Year in 2019

Devkyara Trek is an ecstatic meadow that highlights some majestic regions like Obra Gad, Jakhol, Bhawa and many more. This meadow is the major attraction of the Himalayas which lies at an altitude of 4,100 m. Yet, this meadow is unexplored and comes under unexplored treks of Himalayan region. It lies between the twin valley i.e. Rupin and Supin and parallel to Har Ki Dun valley as well. Therefore, the views and surroundings are quite similar to Har Ki Dun Trek and yet the trail is quite easy as compared to Har Ki Dun.

The trail is approximately 4 km long and goes through dense forest section and later giver way to meadows; camping here is a bliss! The meadow offers magnificent view of the Rangnala peak, Bandarpoonch, Kalanag and sight of high ridges and unnamed Himalayan peak. Bestriding between Himachal and Uttarakhand mountains, this meadow has essence of Indian mythology as well.

Short Itinerary of Devkyara Trek

Day 1- Pickup to you from Dehradun railway station – Drive to Sankri Market – 210 Km (8/9 Hours (1920 Meters)

Day 2 – Trek from Sankri to Baincha Thach by taxi – 33 km same day trek to Obra gad camp (06 km) (4/5 Hours) (2500 Meters)

Day 3 – Trek from Obra gad camp to Bhawa camp (08 km) (4/5 Hours) (3500 Meters)

Day 4 – Trek from Bhawa camp to Devkyara camp (05 km) (3/4 Hours) (4100 Meters)

Day 5- Trek from Devkyara camp to Obra gad camp (13 km) (5/6 Hours) (2500 Meters)

Day 6- Trek from Obra gad to Baincha road head (06 km) same day drive to Sankri Hotel (33 km) (1/2 Hours) (1920 Meter)

Day 1 : Pickup from Dehradun Railway Station and Drive to Sankri (base camp) by taxi

Night stay – Our Swargarohini Hotel – on twin share basis

Welcoming you to the serene city of Dehradun by the team Visit Himalayas at the departure time i.e. 6:30 am. The accommodation is at Sankri, which is around 200 km. Thus, it will take 6-7 hours to reach there. The drive to Sankri is a picturesque one and you will come across plethora of sceneries on the way.

The locations elapsed throughout the drive will be Mussoorie, Damta, Nowgao,Netwar and Purola.

Have a little glimpse of the villagers working there and their lifestyle. When you go through the forests, peep out of your window and look at the combination of dark and light greenery, it looks picture perfect.

En route Yamuna River and Tons valley across the Yamuna Bridge are visible.

When we cross the entry gate of Govind Wildlife Sanctuary, afterwards the Baraadsar mountain range and other snow-capped mountains comes into sight, then you are about to reach Sankri.

Sankri is a small village with less number of houses. There is a famous mini market with few wooden huts serving traditional and delicious food. From here you can have a glance of some high snow-capped mountain ranges.

Reach the basecamp and relish the beauty of Sankri. We own a hotel there named “Swargarohini”. Arrangements will be made, enjoy your dinner and relax there.

Day 2 : Trek from Sankri to Baincha by taxi – 33 km same day trek to Obra gad camp !

Total distance – 06 + 33 km – 4/5 Hours journey

Mode of journey – On foot – 06 km – By taxi 33 km

Altitude – Obra gad – 2500 Meters

Night Stay – Camp site – on twin share basis

Distance from Sankri to via jakhol – Baincha Thach is 33 km and you can reach there in two hours. The greenery will accompany you all along your journey with lavish flora all around.
An alluring chapel in baicha, Jakhol is the starting point of our trek stars to Obra Gad which is 6 km away. We will provide packed lunch which you can have in middle of the day.

The trail will take you through beautiful Himalayan villages where you can have a glimpse of their life in mountains. People living in mountains have a total different lifestyle and traditions, knowing about their traditional values and culture can change anyone as a person. So, do communicate with them on the way as they heartily welcome you.

You will come across some fields at Baincha Thach, ahead is a small temple and the architecture is beautiful and rare. The campsite is 1 km further, it is a wide meadow with ample of space for camping. Set your tents at the place and retire for the night.

Day 3 : Trek from Obra gad camp to Bhawa camp

Trek Distance – 08 km – 5/6 Hours journey

Mode of journey – On foot – 08 km

Altitude – Bhawa camp – 3500 Meters

Night Stay – Camp site – on twin share basis

Post breakfast and with packed lunch head towards Bhawa. The trek is 8 km long surrounded with dense forests. When you exit the forest area, the lush green land opens up in front of you with some wildflowers.

This is Bhawa which is the ridge’s high point and divides the Obra valley. The views from here clear, to the north Fithari village is visible and towards right you can see Devkiyara. Setup your tents here and retire for the night.

Day 4 : Trek from Bhawa camp to Devkiyara camp

Trek Distance – 05 km – 3/4 Hours journey

Mode of journey – On foot – 05 km

Altitude –– Devkiyara camp – 4100 Meters

Night Stay – Camp site – on twin share basis

Post breakfast start your trek with packed lunch. Today’s trek is going to be the picturesque one, walking on the grassy slopes throughout the day to reach Devkiyara. It is a 4 km long meadow surrounded by the peaks.
From here Daowdu (5500 m) and Rangnala Peaks (6100 m) are visible. Some villages are visible behind, this is your campsite for today. Setup your tents here and retire for the night.

Day 5 : Trek from Devkiyara camp to Obra gad camp

Trek Distance – 13 km – 5/6 Hours journey

Mode of journey – On foot – 13 km

Altitude –Obra gad – 2500 Meters

Night Stay – Camp site – on twin share basis

Have breakfast and start your trek with packed lunch to Obra which lie at an altitude of 2500 meters. From Devkiyara descend till Obra which is opposite to Har Ki Dun valley. Trek through beautiful meadows and dense forest sections.

In Obra valley there is “Obra temple” which is made by the villagers and below flows Obra River, people from different villages visit this temple to worship Lord Someshwar and these people every year carry a pilgrimage from Jakhol to Obra valley.

Day 6 : Trek from Obra gad to baicha road head (06km) same day drive to Sankri Hotel

Total distance – 06 + 33 km – 4/5 Hours journey

Mode of journey – On foot – 06 km – By taxi 33 km

Altitude – Sankri – 1920 Meters

Night Stay – our Hotel – on twin share basis

From Obra head towards baincha, via Jakhol through meadows and dense forests and you will reach Dhara. You can also reach there by crossing a high ridge. On the way, a big temple of Lord Someshwar cross by which is to the right of Supin River.

Ahead Dhara, keep trekking and you will reach Jakhol which is close to Obra Gad. Rest here and leave for Sankri. Have salubrious food there and enjoy the stay in hotel Swargarohini.

Day 7 : Drive from Sankri to Dehradun by taxi

Trek Distance –210 km – 8/9 Hours journey

Mode of journey – by taxi

Today is last breakfast with team Visit Himalayas the trekker’s departures Day from Sankri to Dehradun.

Visit Himalayas arranged to you transport Sankri base to Dehradun
Reached Dehradun evening 4 to 5 pm.

Note: –  Many trekkers commit the same mistake of carrying unnecessary items on a trek which only makes the backpack heavy. It is important to know the right items to carry.
It differs from season to season if you are trekking in summers then carry less layers of warm clothing and if you are trekking in winters carry enough layers to protect yourself against chilly cold.

Necessary Items for trekkers

Backpack (50 to 60 liters)
A strongly built backpack with good support is compulsory for a trek. (Rain cover is important)

Sturdy Trekking Shoes
The shoes should be strong enough with good support. The people ask if sports shoes would be comfortable but it is good to bring the right trekking shoes.

The Clothes You Should Bring On a Trek
Avoid keeping extra clothes because it only makes you backpack heavy.

Trek Pants – The jeans are never suitable for a trek so you need at least 2-3 trek pants for treks carry more for longer treks.

Jacket – Jackets are very important to carry on a trek it protects you against the chilly weather. So carry 2 jackets on a week long trek.

Layers of warm Clothing 
Carry warm woolen layers or fleece. Carry more layers during winter season (at least 2 to 3) and less during summer.

Thermals – The Temperature decreases at night so you might be need thermals for Night.

T- Shirts – Bring those t shirts which dry fast.

Poncho –They are needed if you are trekking on a Rainy day to keep you dry.
